Please join us for our quarterly business meeting. In addition to regular business the church will be voting on the following proposed change to the bylaws:
Purpose:
Trinity’s bylaws currently prohibit Christians who have been properly baptised in other denominations, other than Mennonites, from joining the church unless they get re-baptized at Trinity. The purpose of this amendment is to allow Trinity’s pastor to make exceptions to this rule.
Current Wording from Article 2, Section 2, Subpoint D:
Admission from Other Denominations - Applicants from other denominations will be received upon an acknowledgment of the Church as candidates for baptism. Following baptism, full church membership will be accorded. This is not to be construed as a reflection upon the genuineness of their previous Christian experience, but is an effort to maintain the symbolism and significance of baptism itself.
Proposed Wording:
Admission from Other Denominations - Applicants from other denominations will be received upon an acknowledgment of the Church as candidates for baptism or with the approval of the Pastor. Following baptism or Pastoral approval, full church membership will be accorded. This is not to be construed as a reflection upon the genuineness of their previous Christian experience, but is an effort to maintain the symbolism and significance of baptism itself.
